How to Install a Tesla Wrap — Every Method, Step by Step

Three ways to install a Tesla wrap: the Tesla app route, the USB Wraps folder route, and physical vinyl — with exact steps for each.

There are three ways to get a wrap onto a Tesla, and they solve different problems. The Tesla app route installs a digital design in about a minute. The USB route does the same without needing the newest app. And physical vinyl — installed by a shop — changes the actual car. This guide walks through all three, step by step, starting from a design you like.

If you haven't picked a design yet, do it in the studio first: every wrap on TSLWrap previews on your exact model and exports as an install-ready file.

Method 1 — Tesla app (fastest)

  • Update the Tesla mobile app to 4.59 or newer
  • Export your design from TSLWrap (Export Design) and save it to your phone
  • In the app, open Creations → Wrap → Upload
  • Select the PNG — it syncs to the car over Tesla's servers
  • In the car, open Toybox → Paint Shop and apply the design

Method 2 — USB drive (no app needed)

  • Format a USB drive as exFAT or FAT32
  • Create a folder named exactly Wraps (capital W) at the drive's root
  • Copy your exported PNG into the Wraps folder — follow Tesla's custom-wraps GitHub naming convention
  • Plug the drive into the vehicle's USB port
  • Open Toybox → Paint Shop in the car and select the design

Method 3 — physical vinyl (changes the real car)

  • Preview designs in 3D and export your favorite as the visual brief
  • Get quotes from local wrap shops — material, coverage and labor all vary the price
  • The shop prints/cuts the film and installs it, typically over 1–3 days
  • Care for it: hand wash, avoid pressure washing edges

If your wrap doesn't appear or won't install

  • Check the file: 1024×1024 square PNG, under 1 MB, 8-bit sRGB — re-export from TSLWrap to be sure
  • USB route: confirm the folder is named Wraps exactly, at the root, and the file is directly inside it
  • App route: confirm app version 4.59+; older versions lack Creations → Wrap
  • In-car: the design appears under Toybox → Paint Shop; restart the screen if the list doesn't refresh

Frequently asked questions

How do I upload a custom wrap to my Tesla?
Export a 1024×1024 PNG, then either upload it in the Tesla app (Creations → Wrap → Upload, app 4.59+) or copy it to a folder named Wraps on a USB drive and open Toybox → Paint Shop in the car.
Which Tesla app version do I need for wraps?
App 4.59 or newer. Older versions don't have the Creations → Wrap upload path — update the app or use the USB route instead.
What folder name does the Tesla wrap USB drive need?
Exactly Wraps — capital W — at the root of the drive, per the naming convention in Tesla's custom-wraps GitHub.
How long does a physical vinyl wrap install take?
Shops typically quote one to three days for a full Tesla, depending on coverage and complexity. Digital Paint Shop wraps install in about a minute.
Can I remove a Paint Shop wrap later?
Yes — Paint Shop wraps are digital; revert to factory paint in Toybox → Paint Shop at any time.
